BroadBand Light (BBL) Treatment from Hessler Plastic Surgery

How BroadBand Light works

BroadBand Light (BBL) delivers quick, intense bursts of light energy into the top layers of the skin, stimulating the body’s natural healing process. As the thermal energy enters your body, it creates cell regeneration that results in clearer, more healthy skin.

Key benefits of BBL

  • Non-surgical and non-invasive
  • No scars, side effects, or downtime
  • Quick and convenient treatments
  • Addresses nearly every skin condition

Forever Young BBL™

For skin

Forever Young BBL improves a wide range of skin concerns, including sagging skin, age spots, and wrinkles. The Forever Young BBL device is the only one of its kind that precisely targets the skin molecules associated with aging with powerful light technology. This treatment delivers visible improvements to the top layers of skin, while simultaneously working below in the skin to revitalize old skin cells at the molecular level. After a series of Forever Young BBL treatments, patients will notice a clearer, more even complexion. Any area of the body can be treated with Forever Young BBL, including the face, neck, chest, arms, and hands. It gets significant results for conditions such as sun spots, fine lines, uneven skin tone, rosacea, acne, and loose skin.

Forever Clear BBL™

For acne

Forever Clear BBL works by taking a three-pronged approach to target and clear up acne: three levels of light energy (blue, yellow, and infrared). The blue BBL light kills acne-causing bacteria; the yellow BBL light decreases inflammation, and the infrared light triggers the body’s natural healing process, which repairs acne wounds. Forever Clear BBL is an effective treatment that can be a truly life-changing procedure for those who struggle with acne. It is a fantastic option especially for those who have tried multiple acne treatments that have not worked.

BBL treatment details

During the BBL procedure, you will be given protective eyewear to keep your eyes safe from the light. Dr. Hessler will use the BBL device to administer quick bursts of light energy directly into your skin. This feels like a warm sensation, and most patients report very little discomfort, if any. The length of the treatment will depend on your specific skin conditions, but in general, treatments take about 20 minutes.

Recovery

Following your BBL treatment, the skin may appear slightly pink, but this will fade within a few hours. If you were treated for brown pigmentation, it may appear darker and/or grayish, similar to a coffee ground sitting atop the skin. This generally flakes off the skin within the week, and makeup can be worn during this time to hide it. Over the course of the following week, your skin will have a radiant glow and softer feel. You will need to avoid intense sun exposure for a few weeks following your BBL treatment.

FAQ

How is BBL different from IPL?

Intense pulsed light and BBL are both light-based technologies, but there are some key differences. BBL is much more comfortable, increases collagen growth, and is more customizable than IPL.

How customizable are BBL treatments?

In just one BBL treatment session, we can target everything from acne to pigmentation to redness, and even further adjust the treatment to the varying degrees of each condition — as well as the patient’s specific skin type. This customization allows us not only to safely and optimally treat our patients, but also allows us to widen the spectrum of patients that can benefit from these treatments.

How frequently do I need to do a BBL treatment?

The best BBL results come from a series of 3 to 5 treatments, scheduled 3 to 4 weeks apart. Once the series of treatments is complete, we recommend a maintenance plan of appointments 2 to 3 times a year. While you can get great results with just one or two treatments, BBL should be a lifelong commitment to the overall health and appearance of your skin. Not only is clarity, texture, and tone enhanced; there’s also an increase of collagen over time.

When is the best time of year to get BBL treatments?

Fall and winter are ideal times for BBL treatments, although they can be performed any time of the year for patients who limit their sun exposure.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for my BBL treatment?

Yes. You should avoid sun exposure and not have tanned skin at the time of your treatment. You should also avoid certain antibiotics and photosensitizing medications that will make you more sensitive to the sun. Additionally, you should stop applying Retin-A or retinol products to the skin for one week before a BBL treatment.
