What is Kybella?

Kybella is the first and only FDA approved non-surgical treatment that improves and contours moderate to severe submental fat, essentially correcting a double chin. Treatments are administered via injections, and the active ingredient is deoxycholic acid. This is a naturally-occurring molecule found within the body that destroys fat permanently while leaving all other cells healthy and intact.

Kybella treatment details

During your consultation with Dr. Jill Hessler, she will create a personalized treatment plan specifically for you. On the day of your actual Kybella treatment, you will be given a topical anesthetic underneath your chin, followed by a dot grid to give Dr. Hessler guidance for the injections. There will be approximately 10 to 50 injections, which will take about 10 minutes. The majority of patients report that any discomfort is minimal due to the topical anesthetic. Some patients also report a slight burning sensation from the deoxycholic acid.

We can provide ice packs to help decrease this sensation. You will be given a compression bandage after your treatment. For most patients, results are apparent after 2 to 3 Kybella sessions, although some require up to six treatments to achieve the best results. The number of treatments you’ll need will depend on the amount of fat that is being removed. One of the best things about Kybella is, once you are finished with all of your treatments, there’s no need for “maintenance” appointments.
