PRFM Plasma Facelift in Palo Alto, San Jose and the Bay Area

What is a PRFM plasma facelift?

By now, many people know about and have experienced the benefits of using platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for facials and hair restoration. But less have heard about platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), the next generation of “blood treatments” which may be even more advanced and effective than PRP. Platelet-rich fibrin is extracted in a slower, smoother process which results in even more growth factors — which means better results.

What does a PRFM plasma facelift treat?

  • Crepey skin
  • Sagging cheeks

Is PRF really superior to PRP?

Studies have shown that PRF achieves even better results than PRP because it contains 8 to 10 times more growth factors than PRP, and possibly more stem cells. These studies showed that more blood flow (neovascularization) occurred with PRF. The way that platelet-rich fibrin ends up with more growth factors because the collection process is different than it is with PRP. With platelet-rich fibrin, the collection process is 100% natural and unmodified, while PRP includes additives and chemicals. This is all due to the way the blood is spun, and the types of vials that are used. In PRF collection, a lower spin speed is used, as well as different vials and a different angle while spinning.

This causes the platelets and other wanted cells — such as white blood cells — to stay at the top of the vial and provide a higher concentration of the “good stuff”. Furthermore, a big difference between PRP and PRF is that when PRF is injected into areas of the face, it spreads more slowly. This means that the body is able to take advantage of the growth factors more efficiently and the effects last longer. PRP is usually only productive for one day, whereas PRFM is productive for up to one week. This is because PRF does not include any blood thinning agents, as PRP does.

How a PRFM plasma facelift works

On its own, PRF will stimulate cell renewal and trigger the production of collagen and elastin, which creates a lifting and volumizing effect on the skin. This happens because once PRF is injected, the skin begins to repair and rejuvenate itself with the help of the growth factors. When this process is combined with dermal filler, the effect is significant. The dermal filler delivers immediate volume, which the growth factors then add to gradually by building brand new collagen around it.

PRFM plasma facelift details

When you arrive for your appointment, a topical numbing cream will be applied to your face. A small amount of blood will be drawn from your vein, and the blood will be placed within a centrifuge, where the red blood cells will be separated from the platelets and other wanted cells.

Next, the dermal filler that Dr. Hessler will have discussed with you during your consultation will be injected into areas of your face. Once the dermal filler has been administered, the prepared platelet-rich fibrin will be placed into a syringe and injected exactly the dermal filler was placed.

The treatment takes about one hour. For most patients, we recommend a minimum of three treatments scheduled 6 to 8 weeks apart.

Recovery

There is minimal downtime with a PRFM plasma facelift, and the majority of patients are able to return to their regular routines immediately after treatment. You may experience mild redness, slight swelling and bruising, and/or a tight feeling of the skin. These side effects are normal, may last for up to two days, and may be followed by some slight peeling.

Results

Results from a PRFM plasma facelift typically become visible six weeks after treatment. Skin tightening, collagen production, and enhanced skin quality may take up to 3 to 4 months to become apparent, and will last anywhere from 6 to 12 months.
